I have to thank my friend Casey for this awesome fish print idea. She found a photo of some really expensive fish prints in a decor magazine, and thought, why couldn’t you make these on your own? So I did it here and love how they came out. I think bright colors work really well for this project.
Step 1: Roll out paint on a large blank canvas to cover in a solid color. I chose gray as the background for my first piece.
Step 2: Use a sponge brush to paint over one side of a small whole fish (I used Porgy) in a contrasting color.
Step 3: Carefully flip your fish over, paint-side-down, onto your painted canves. Press down all edges of the fish to try to get as much of the fish’s outline onto the canvas as possible. Repeat pressing the fish on different parts of the canvas, applying more paint to the fish as needed. If desired, make an inverse print on another canvas by flipping the colors – like I did here with the red background and grey fish (use a new fish if you decide to do this).
Step 4: Let your prints dry and then display them. I can’t wait to put these side-by-side on a wall in white frames.
